The Christmas holidays are approaching, and with them the decorations and social events we look forward to all year. The end of the year is coming and we want to mark it and celebrate with the people we love.

The usual thing is to decorate our homes and follow traditions we believe say something about us. The truth is it doesn’t always have to be that way: you can allow yourself to create your own traditions and go for a Christmas that reflects you – and that you can use all year round -.

Here’s a list of tips so you can create a minimalist Christmas and enjoy it.

1. A neutral colour palette
To achieve a minimalist style, we start by defining a neutral colour palette. We’d recommend choosing a green base, adding white details for contrast and picking one or two more colours you like to complete the palette – black and burgundy, for example.
Once you have the palette defined, try not to stray from those colours; play with tones and textures to build up different layers and keep everything looking harmonious.
2. Keep the decorations simple
Here we’ll stay faithful to the rule that “less is more”. To have minimalist decoration at home we need to keep certain details in mind, and not overdoing it is the key.
Choose pieces that stand out and don’t overload them with extra ornaments or ribbons. You won’t need much more than bunches of natural green foliage, warm lights, and scented and decorative candles – white ones especially – to create the atmosphere you’re hoping for
3. Invest in details you can use at any time
A mistake we make constantly is buying Christmas decorations that end up in a box for the other 11 months of the year. Our advice is that, when you invest in decoration, it should be reusable the rest of the year and complemented with small Christmas touches.
For example, you can have different candlesticks and candles of various sizes to decorate the living or dining room; you can also bring in natural fibre pieces such as baskets, which will give that welcoming, very neutral touch.
4. Don’t overdo the tree
For a minimalist Christmas tree you’ll only need 3 elements. Obviously you’ll need a natural or artificial tree that’s nice and full so it looks good on its own; to that we’ll add warm lights – you can play with different bulb sizes to make it more dynamic – and finally baubles. Don’t forget your colour palette and find baubles that fit it; don’t be afraid of the sizes and dare to play.
5. Decorate the Christmas table
For many, the most eagerly awaited part of Christmas is the many occasions to get together to eat and have a good time. Here we’d recommend using tableware in neutral tones that you can then use the rest of the year. Decorate the table with candles, natural branches and place cards with Christmas details, without going overboard. The idea is to be creative with as few decorative elements as possible.

We hope you find it useful.

!! MERRY CHRISTMAS !!
